Tiger Eye bead example

This guide separates established mineral names from jewellery trade names. Material, treatment and source can vary between suppliers, so the exact beads in a finished piece should always take priority.

What is Tiger Eye?

Tiger eye is chatoyant quartz formed from fibrous material that has been replaced by silica. Golden-brown colour is associated with iron, while blue-grey material is called hawk’s eye.

Colour, pattern and what to look for

The moving band of light is the defining feature. Rotate the bead rather than judging it from one photograph, because the flash depends on direction and illumination.

Traditional meanings of Tiger Eye

In crystal traditions, Tiger Eye is associated with grounding, protection. Meanings vary between traditions and can be a personal way of choosing a gift or marking an intention.

These associations describe beliefs and symbolism, rather than established medical effects. Jewellery does not treat health conditions.

Care and buying notes for Tiger Eye

Tiger eye is about Mohs 6.5–7. Keep it away from abrasive grit and harder stones, and clean with warm water and a soft cloth.

For treatment questions, read the guide to natural, dyed and imitation gemstones and ask Shirley about the materials in a particular design. If you want a different combination or size, use the custom crystal bracelet builder.
