Red Jasper bead example

This guide separates established mineral names from jewellery trade names. Material, treatment and source can vary between suppliers, so the exact beads in a finished piece should always take priority.

What is Red Jasper?

Red jasper is an opaque, iron-coloured variety of quartz-rich jasper. Its red, brick and terracotta tones usually come from iron oxides in the rock.

Colour, pattern and what to look for

Natural red jasper can be even or strongly patterned with cream, brown and darker matrix. A smooth polish brings out the dense, earthy colour.

Traditional meanings of Red Jasper

In crystal traditions, Red Jasper is associated with grounding, protection. Meanings vary between traditions and can be a personal way of choosing a gift or marking an intention.

These associations describe beliefs and symbolism, rather than established medical effects. Jewellery does not treat health conditions.

Care and buying notes for Red Jasper

Jasper is commonly around Mohs 6.5–7. Keep it away from harder stones and harsh chemicals, and clean with warm water and a soft cloth.

For treatment questions, read the guide to natural, dyed and imitation gemstones and ask Shirley about the materials in a particular design. If you want a different combination or size, use the custom crystal bracelet builder.
