Learn what Prehnite is, how its colour and pattern form, what to check when buying it, how to care for it and how it is used in jewellery.

Prehnite bead example

This guide separates established mineral names from jewellery trade names. Material, treatment and source can vary between suppliers, so the exact beads in a finished piece should always take priority.

What is Prehnite?

Prehnite is a pale green to yellow-green calcium aluminium silicate, often forming botryoidal or grape-like masses. It can contain needle-like inclusions of epidote or other minerals.

Colour, pattern and what to look for

Translucent apple-green colour and rounded internal texture are common. Fine beads may show cloudy zones rather than the transparent clarity of a faceted gem.

Traditional meanings of Prehnite

In crystal traditions, Prehnite is associated with grounding, protection. Meanings vary between traditions and can be a personal way of choosing a gift or marking an intention.

These associations describe beliefs and symbolism, rather than established medical effects. Jewellery does not treat health conditions.

Care and buying notes for Prehnite

Prehnite is around Mohs 6–6.5. Protect it from hard knocks and scratches, and clean with warm soapy water rather than steam or harsh chemicals.

For treatment questions, read the guide to natural, dyed and imitation gemstones and ask Shirley about the materials in a particular design. If you want a different combination or size, use the custom crystal bracelet builder.
