Malachite
Meaning & Jewellery.
Learn what Malachite is, how its colour and pattern form, what to check when buying it, how to care for it and how it is used in jewellery.

This guide separates established mineral names from jewellery trade names. Material, treatment and source can vary between suppliers, so the exact beads in a finished piece should always take priority.
What is Malachite?
Malachite is a green copper carbonate mineral, recognised by concentric bands and swirls from pale green to deep green. It is often found with azurite and other copper minerals.
Colour, pattern and what to look for
The banding is the key feature: bullseyes, waves and eyes can appear in a single bead. Uniform bright green material should be checked for treatment or imitation.
Traditional meanings of Malachite
In crystal traditions, Malachite is associated with grounding, protection. Meanings vary between traditions and can be a personal way of choosing a gift or marking an intention.
These associations describe beliefs and symbolism, rather than established medical effects. Jewellery does not treat health conditions.

Care and buying notes for Malachite
Malachite is relatively soft, around Mohs 3.5–4, and is sensitive to acids. Keep it dry, avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaning, and wipe with a soft cloth.
For treatment questions, read the guide to natural, dyed and imitation gemstones and ask Shirley about the materials in a particular design. If you want a different combination or size, use the custom crystal bracelet builder.
