Hawk’s Eye bead example

This guide separates established mineral names from jewellery trade names. Material, treatment and source can vary between suppliers, so the exact beads in a finished piece should always take priority.

What is Hawk’s Eye?

Hawk’s eye is the blue-grey form of chatoyant quartz, closely related to golden tiger eye. The silky effect comes from aligned fibrous inclusions.

Colour, pattern and what to look for

Tilt the bead under a single light to see the narrow band move across the surface. Blue-grey, charcoal and brown areas can occur together as the material changes toward golden tiger eye.

Traditional meanings of Hawk’s Eye

In crystal traditions, Hawk’s Eye is associated with grounding, protection. Meanings vary between traditions and can be a personal way of choosing a gift or marking an intention.

These associations describe beliefs and symbolism, rather than established medical effects. Jewellery does not treat health conditions.
