Fluorite
Meaning & Jewellery.
Learn what Fluorite is, how its colour and pattern form, what to check when buying it, how to care for it and how it is used in jewellery.

This guide separates established mineral names from jewellery trade names. Material, treatment and source can vary between suppliers, so the exact beads in a finished piece should always take priority.
What is Fluorite?
Fluorite is calcium fluoride and occurs in striking purple, green, yellow, blue and banded colours. Its cubic crystals and strong cleavage are characteristic.
Colour, pattern and what to look for
Colour zoning and translucent bands are common, while polished beads may show glassy lustre and internal veils. Fluorite is admired for colour rather than high wear resistance.
Traditional meanings of Fluorite
In crystal traditions, Fluorite is associated with wisdom, clarity. Meanings vary between traditions and can be a personal way of choosing a gift or marking an intention.
These associations describe beliefs and symbolism, rather than established medical effects. Jewellery does not treat health conditions.

Care and buying notes for Fluorite
Fluorite is Mohs 4 and has perfect cleavage, so it can scratch or split more easily than quartz. Avoid knocks, abrasive storage, heat and ultrasonic cleaning.
For treatment questions, read the guide to natural, dyed and imitation gemstones and ask Shirley about the materials in a particular design. If you want a different combination or size, use the custom crystal bracelet builder.
